Davidson Estates 10year Anniversary

22.06.18

Thank you to everyone who attended the Davidson Estates 10 year anniversary party.

We had a fantastic time chatting to our valued landlords, buyers and vendors over a few glasses of champagne and canapes and were thoroughly entertained by local magician George Billingham and  musician Chris.

We’d like to thank all those who bought a raffle ticket, you’ve helped us raise £100 for the Brain Tumour Charity, a fantastic charity who are committed to fighting brain tumours on all fronts through research and support to save lives and improve quality of life.

A massive thank you to Boston Tea Party, The High Field, Loki Wine and Neptune for donating some wonderful raffle prizes, your generosity is very much appreciated.

Less is more

02.05.18

Stuff, organised mess, mementoes …… call it what you want but the truth is, most of us are guilty of having or being surrounded by more things than we can ever use or need, that’s right, we’re hoarders!!!

As a nation we hoard £10billion worth of clothes we never wear and approximately £2.6billion is spent each year on unwanted gifts. Author of ‘keep this toss that’, Jamie Novak says that “the fewer things you keep, the more special they become to you”.

Now we are in the full swing of Spring, I think it’s time to start organising our possessions to make life nice and orderly again. It is a laborious task but here are a few tips which will help you decide what to keep and what to ditch.

  1. One room at a time – the thought of having to reorganise everything can be overwhelming so if you organise one room at a time, this will make the process less daunting.
  2. Clear out your wardrobe – use the 2 year rule, if you’ve not worn the item in 2 years chances are you won’t wear it again.
  3. Never start with sentimental things – you’ll end up spending more time reminiscing about the good old days and getting too emotionally attached to toss it away.
  4. Ditch the ‘rather not used items’ – we often have more than one of something from kitchen utensils to clothes so don’t clog up space and only keep the preferred and most used items.
  5. Money money money – Make some money out of stuff you don’t want by setting up a car boot/ garage sale or even listing it on ebay or gumtree.
  6. Go paperless – so many things are digital nowadays like reading books, cookery books and even photos so save yourself some shelf space and get rid of the hard copies.
Whilst we’re on the paperless theme, why not use a wipe clean board for messages and notes.
  7. Kids play – Get rid of toys that the kids no longer play with, are broken or not 100% intact. Rotate the remaining toys so your kids can play with a few items at a time and store the rest. Bring out the stored items every few months so they look and feel new to your child(ren).
  8. Sweet memories – some things are really hard to get rid of like your first card/ soft toy from your partner or the first picture your child drew for you or toys your parents bought for you. Choose a few items that give you that warm fuzzy feeling and put them in a nice box or tie it with a ribbon as a keep sake. You can take pictures of the other items you are getting rid of so the memories will still be there.
  9. Charity starts at home – if you’re not making the most out of some items, you could donate unwanted/ unused items to charity. It’ll free up storage space at home and make you feel good that your gesture has made a difference in someone’s life.
  10. Be ruthless – when deliberating over an item, ask yourself the following: Why am I keeping it? Where will I store it? Will I remember I have it and will I be able to find it again? Will I ever use it again?
  11. See it through – once you’ve deciding to get rid of an item, get it out the house asap so you won’t have second thoughts.

Keep calm and go to the park

23.06.16

Amongst all the chaos and the hustle and bustle of city life, it sure is nice to know that there’s a nearby place of total contrast to escape to. No huge buildings dominating the skyline, no car horns blaring, and no herds of people walking at snail’s pace side by side along the high street. A place to immerse yourself in the glorious sounds of birdsong and the wind in the trees. A place where you can really get in touch with nature and all that’s beautiful about it.

In Birmingham, we’re a lucky lot. While we are very privileged to be able to call this amazing city home, we also have a number of stunning, picturesque parks and nature reserves dotted around the outskirts of the city centre. Let’s start by telling you about The Birmingham Botanical Gardens: Fifteen acres of beautiful landscaped gardens with 7000 plants, shrubs and trees, four glasshouses showcasing a vast range of exotic plants, art gallery, tea room, and a gift shop. The Botanical Gardens is available to hire, and is ideal for wedding venues and parties. There is an open-air theatre during the summer for live music, and they are also available to local schools for educational visits.

A little further south of the city, there’s the famous Cannon Hill Park, complete with boating lake! This wonderful park, made up of 80 acres of formal parkland and 120 acres of conservation and woodland plantation, was donated to the citizens of Birmingham by Miss Louisa Ryland expressing her wish that the Park would prove a source of healthful recreation to the people of Birmingham.

Venturing further out, there’s Moseley Bog & Nature Reserve, which was actually a popular playground for Lord of the Rings author J R R Tolkien. He has said that it was the inspiration for the “old forest” in the books, and people from all over have visited the bog to experience his inspiration for themselves. There are also some remains of Victorian Gardens in the reserve, as well as evidence of human activity dating back 3000 years throughout, including clay pits and two Bronze Age burnt mounds.

Our wonderful  city features some amazing sights (especially if you’ve ever dined at the top of The Cube or the brand new Park Regis Hotel, or lived in Beetham Tower), but if you’re looking for a break from all that concrete for sights more bright, beautiful, great and small, we thoroughly recommend exploring one of these wonderful places.

Our new home

21.03.16

You may remember us mentioning our big move not so long ago, from our home of 4 years on Calthorpe Road, to Frederick Road. Well, you’ll be happy to know we made it here in one piece, and the office looks fab! There’s finally enough room for our growing team, and even space for a couple more. We also have a lovely seating area for visiting clients, right in front of the big arch window, and a luxurious meeting room on the second floor.

We are continuing to offer our outstanding lettings, sales and property management services, in addition to our investments department offering a wide variety of exciting opportunities for investors all over.

As you can see, our new location is every bit as pretty and picturesque as the majority of the premium Edgbaston addresses that we typically operate in. Our heart is and will always be in this beautiful district of Birmingham and its ever-buoyant property market.

If you’re in the area, feel free to pop in and say hi 🙂

We’re moving home

07.03.16

Here at Davidson Estates, we’ve decided to up sticks and relocate, pack our bags and start afresh in a brand new location………2 minutes down the road. That’s right: on Wednesday 9th March, we will be leaving our Calthorpe Road office to move to our new home in Frederick Road.

Whilst staying within the beautiful B15 area of Edgbaston, we will have our very own office, which has been fully renovated and decorated throughout and looks just lovely. It’s the perfect bright and cheery environment for our bright and cheery staff. The office is also situated right next door to our favourite solicitors, Seymour Luke, which we’re super pleased about.

Situated in an executive period building within the Calthorpe Estate, our heart remains in the B15 Edgbaston property market; and our lovely new location is even more telling of the type of area we operate in.

Our new address will be: The Coach House, 14a Frederick Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B15 1JD. Why not pop in and see us some time?

Now – does anyone fancy giving us a hand with the move?….

Greenfield Cresent

The new Edgbaston Village

19.02.16

Plans for the new Edgbaston Village are well underway, as planning permission has been granted to Calthorpe Estates to create six brand new retail units, premier student apartments and Grade A offices on Greenfield Crescent. As well as this, just around the corner, on Harborne Road, works will soon commence on properties opposite Morrisons supermarket to convert them into luxury one and two bedroom rental apartments, and the Birmingham Medical Institute Conference centre will be being transformed into an attractive new restaurant and wine bar called The Physician.

If you check out the Edgbaston Village website, you can see an artist’s impressions of what the new retail units on Greenfield Crescent and Harborne Road will look like. The units will be available from Autumn 2016, and are anticipated to welcome even more visitors to the area, which is already home to many charming bars and eateries such as El Borracho de Oro (exquisite Spanish restaurant and tapas bar), The Edgbaston Boutique Hotel and Cocktail Lounge and The Blue Piano, which serves an enchanting mixture of Thai food and live jazz music – played on an actual blue piano by guest musicians.

At Davidson Estates, we’re already ecstatic to be able to call Edgbaston home, and we’re super excited for things to come. With so many improvements having taken place in the city recently, we can’t wait to see what more Edgbaston has to offer us.

The Edgbaston Boutique Hotel and Cocktail Bar, Highfield Road

03.11.15

Ah, The Edgbaston. One of the area’s finest establishments, this cocktail bar is a must-do for anyone with a penchant for quality and taste. According to some, it is an impressive “first date” type of place (take note guys!). Much more than a cocktail bar, it’s a cocktail experience.

For those of you wishing to experience a truly extravagant and enchanting evening, the super-talented, nationally recognised bar staff here will not disappoint. With their passion for perfection, they provide only the best customer service together with exquisite cocktails, all served with style.

It is also a boutique hotel, with 6 beautifully decorated rooms available with no minimum stay. Each room has its own individual decor, all equipped with an abundance of cushions and throws, offering real comfort and luxury on every visit.

The bar is located just around the corner from our office, on Highfield Road, and it’s safe to say that this is our favourite watering hole – so much so that we shall be gracing it with our presence for our Christmas party this year!
